The City of Fernie is responding to several reports of missed curbside collections and is working with SRP Projects to review them.
The City says some carts were placed out after collection crews had already passed by.
Residents are reminded to place their carts at the curb between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. on collection day.
Collection times can change from week to week. Even if your cart is typically picked up later in the day, routes may shift due to weather, equipment availability, or operational needs.
Having your cart out by 7 a.m. helps ensure your household isn’t missed.
SRP has made the following adjustments to their program to make sure routes are completed on time, especially as the region heads into snow season:
- A second truck is out on Fridays for recycling pickup.
- A second person is assisting with opening the locking mechanism for organics pickup.
The City adds that it is working with the original supplier of the organics bin to solve the problem with the bear-resistant lids not opening during collection.
