Frontline RCMP officers in British Columbia will begin wearing navy-blue uniform shirts in October as part of a phased rollout replacing the traditional grey shirts.
The RCMP says the national rollout began in spring 2025 and has expanded province by province over the past 12 months. Shirts are becoming available to frontline officers at B.C. detachments through the scheduled national distribution plan.

Officers may wear either grey or navy-blue shirts during the transition. Both are official RCMP uniforms and will remain in use for the foreseeable future.
Major crime investigators and officers in specialized units, including the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET) and Underwater Recovery Team (URT), will continue wearing their current unit-specific uniforms or plain clothes as required.
The RCMP says the change may prompt questions from the public. Following recent incidents involving people impersonating police officers, it encourages anyone concerned about an officer’s identity to ask for official identification.

People can also call their local RCMP detachment’s non-emergency line to confirm whether an officer is working in their area.
The RCMP says the new shirts are part of efforts to modernize its uniforms while maintaining professionalism and public trust.
