Columbia River–Revelstoke MLA Scott McInnis has accepted an invitation to rejoin the BC Conservative caucus.
McInnis left the BC Conservative Party on Sept. 2 and said he would sit as an independent, citing concerns about the party’s leadership.
Former leader John Rustad, former interim leader Trevor Halford, and MLAs Linda Hepner and Claire Rattée have also announced their return to the party following Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s resignation on Sunday, Sept. 20.
“When I left caucus, it was because I believed the majority of my constituents and other British Columbians did not agree with the direction which the former leader had shifted toward. I never lost my respect for my colleagues, many of whom I consider close friends. We share a common belief that British Columbians deserve practical solutions, fiscal responsibility, and a government focused on delivering results,” said McInnis in a statement.
The new interim BC Conservative caucus leader is Lorne Doerksen.
“I have tremendous respect for Lorne Doerksen. His tireless commitment to his constituents and his unwavering focus on the people he serves is exactly the kind of leadership British Columbia needs more of.”
McInnis added he will have more to say in the days ahead.
