The Fernie Ghostriders battled to a 3-2 shootout win over the Leafs in Nelson today (Sept. 20).
The first period was scoreless, with several penalties called, including three against Fernie.
The game remained scoreless for 31 minutes before Nelson defencemen Nolan Murphy scored 11:22 into the second period to give the Leafs the lead.
With two seconds left in the second period, Ghostriders forward Sawyer Samycia found the back of the net to tie the game, assisted by Jackson Roberts and Spencer Bates.
Early in the third period, Larson Proctor restored Nelson’s lead. Eight minutes later, Fernie forward Jaden Piper tied the game with an assist from Samycia.
After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout.
Fernie forward Boston Logan scored the shootout’s only goal to secure the win.
Fernie returns home to open a homestand against the Revelstoke Grizzlies on Sept. 25 and the Columbia Valley Rockies on Sept. 26.
