The Kimberley Dynamiters closed their preseason with a dominant 5-0 win over the Nelson Leafs tonight (Sept. 12) at the Nelson Community Complex.
Penalties piled up throughout the night, with 20 assessed in total. Kimberley was sent to the box 12 times, while Nelson was called for eight infractions.
Dynamiters forward Brayden Schwartz opened the scoring at 17:55 of the first period, assisted by Dylan Stanley and Nathan Laforge.
Kimberley extended its lead in the third minute of the second period when defenceman Adam Shypitka scored on the power play, with assists from Kole Duquette and Schwartz.
After the Leafs were called for too many men on the ice, Shypitka scored his second power-play goal of the night at 16:16, assisted by Cohen Bell and Ashton Harty.
Less than a minute later, the Dynamiters struck again when Riley Lettington scored, with assists from Shea Fitzgerald and Parker Fleishhauer.
Kimberley’s Matthew Lenz added another goal for the nitros at 12:31 of the third period, assisted by Duquette and Noah Provan.
Nelson goalie Maximus Papachristopoulos played all 60 minutes, stopping 32 of 37 shots.
Kimberley’s goaltenders faced 12 shots combined. Connor Baumbach stopped all four shots he faced, while Taylor Raynard turned aside all eight.
The Dynamiters open the BCHC’s 2026/27 regular season with a rematch against the Leafs on Sept. 18 at the Nelson Community Complex.
