The Fernie Ghostriders wrapped up their preseason with a 7-2 victory over Columbia Valley tonight (Sept. 12) at Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena.
The first period was scoreless, with Columbia Valley taking two penalties, including one in the final seconds.
Columbia Valley forward Evin Bossel opened the scoring at 7:10 of the second period, assisted by Cooper Barclay. Fernie answered 36 seconds later when Jackson Roberts scored, with assists from Liam Breakenridge and Spencer Bates.
The Ghostriders took the lead less than four minutes later on a goal by Bates, assisted by Roberts.
A fight broke out in the final 12 seconds of the first, with Rockies’ Parker Cutts and Ghostriders’ Carter Chown each receiving a 10-minute continuing fight-game misconduct penalty.
Bossel responded in the final seconds, scoring his second of the night with an assist from Keatan Thompson to tie the game 2-2 at the break.
Fernie struck twice within minutes early in the third period. Forward Jaden Piper scored with assists from Bates and Nate Turton, followed by a goal from Breakenridge assisted by Stephen Jones, giving the Ghostriders the lead six minutes into the frame.
Roberts scored his second of the night on the power play, assisted by Piper and Domenic Rattai.
Ghostriders forward Carter Singleton added another goal 21 seconds later.
Fernie captain Breakenridge closed out the game with his second goal of the night, assisted by Boston Logan and Maxwell Boyle.
Fernie served five penalties, while Columbia Valley was sent to the box seven times.
Rockies goalie Nathen Wilson stopped 16 of 20 shots, while reliever Ivan Tourin faced 11 shots and saved 10.
Ghostriders goalie Leo den Besten faced eight shots and saved seven, while reliever Kael Svenson stopped 22 of 23.
The Ghostriders finished undefeated through three preseason games and now prepare for the BCHC’s 2026/27 regular-season opener against the Grand Forks Border Bruins on Sept. 18 at Jack Goddard Memorial Arena.
