Wildfires in Kimberley remain active as BC Wildfire Service says they plan ignitions on the Tower Creek wildfire for Wednesday (July 29).
An Evacuation ALERT remains in effect for 66 properties in the St. Mary Lake area due to the Tower Creek Fire.
Ignitions are being planned for the Tower Creek wildfire to bring the wildfire to the guard and into operable ground.
Ignitions will only go ahead if weather and site conditions align to create a safe and effective burning window.
Ignitions could begin as early as July 29.
A reminder to residents and visitors in the St. Mary Lake area that there are hoses and other structure protection in place within the Evacuation Alert area.
Driving over hoses can damage them or cause them to fail, even if the damage isn’t immediately visible.
The Area Restriction for the Matthew Creek area remains in effect.
At the Matthew Creek fire, crews are mopping up from yesterday’s (July 27) planned ignitions and assessing and falling danger trees.
Heavy equipment operations and helicopter bucketing are also continuing.
A fire at – Coffee Pot – 5km west of Dutch Creek in the Fairmont Area is estimated at 6 hectares.
Heavy equipment has established machine guard on the N & E flanks of the fire.
Crews are putting in hand guard on both the South and West flanks and reinforcing machine guard
Aviation resources are supporting guard construction by cooling fire behavior and limiting spread.
The Premier Lake fire is being held, though intermittent smoke is expected because rocky terrain and sparse fuels remain, especially during peak daytime heating and while warm, dry conditions continue.
Additionally, any rank 2 open flame that occurs will be more visible at night
