The Cranbrook Kimberley Hospice Society presented to the council meeting on Monday (July 27) to ask the City to donate Baker Park for a proposed 10-bed Hospice House.
During council’s meeting on Monday (July 27), they directed city staff to explore potential land donation options.
Potential locations to be explored as part of the public engagement process include:

For clarity, the Hospice Society’s request is for the Mount Baker RV Campground area only (highlighted in red below), not to be confused with Baker Park, which is legally protected as a park (highlighted in green in the second map below).

At the July 13 regular meeting, Council received correspondence from George Watson, chair of the Cranbrook Kimberley Hospice Society board, requesting a land donation.
Council directed staff to prepare a report for its consideration that includes community input options, potential land options and values, and possible future tax revenues.
Following Council’s direction on Monday night (July 27), staff will conduct public consultation on the potential land donation.
The consultation will be included in the City’s annual major public tax survey, now being finalized for release in late summer or early fall.
More information about the survey will be released later this summer.
Results from both an open input survey and a statistically valid survey will be presented to the new Council before budget discussions in late November 2026.
