Statistics Canada’s latest data shows that British Columbia recorded a 2.5 percent increase in wholesale merchants’ sales in April.
In the report, five provinces recorded higher sales compared to March, with Ontario and BC leading the way.
Ontario posted the largest increase in sales, rising 0.7 per cent in April to $46.5 billion.
Sales were higher in non-agricultural chemical products and the recyclable material industry groups.
In BC, sales rose 2.5 per cent in April to $8.4 billion, with the building materials and supplies subsector reporting the largest increase, at 3.6 per cent to $2 billion.
Alberta and Saskatchewan both saw a drop in sales.
Nationally, wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) rose 0.6 per cent to $89.3 billion.
The largest increases came from the building materials and supplies subsector, with a 4.3 per cent rise to $12.7 billion.
There was also a rise in the mineral, ore and precious metal industry group of 15.7 per cent to $1.0 billion.
In comparison to April 2025, it was a 6.3 per cent increase one year later.
Total manufacturing sales rose 4.2 per cent to $77.1 billion in April, as a result of record high sales in petroleum and coal products.
It was a 3.4 per cent increase from a month earlier in March.
