It was a busy month in May for the Cranbrook RCMP, who responded to 983 calls for service.
Most calls were for checking in on the well-being of a person (including mental health crises), with 102 calls.
RCMP responded to 47 disturbances, including on May 13, when officers received multiple reports of individuals being shot with a BB gun.
The victims in both instances were able to provide a vehicle description.
Police located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of gel/BB-style guns.
The suspect was identified and was issued an Undertaking with 2 charges of assault with a weapon and multiple conditions, including a curfew.
Some notable May statistics included calls regarding 31 assaults, 43 mischief, 74 suspicious occurrences (including vehicles or persons), and 63 thefts.
Officers booked 43 individuals into Cranbrook cells, including 5 arrested on outstanding warrants, 7 remanded into custody after bail hearings, and 3 were held for breaching court-ordered conditions.
There were 81 unwanted person calls logged referring to a non-emergency complaint where someone is refusing to leave a public or private property.
Mounties conducted radar enforcement in school zones, curfew checks and proactive patrols, which resulted in 3 separate 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRP’s) being issued.
There were 34 motor vehicle accidents (including 5 Hit & Runs) and 79 traffic incident calls reported.
On the bright side, Cranbrook officers participated in some community events throughout the month, including multiple bike registration events, the Kootenay Children’s Festival, school visits, detachment tours and Coffee with Cop events.
