The City of Kimberley has announced that a self-serve sandbagging station has been set up at Centennial Hall in response to the flood watch alert from the BC Forecast River Centre.
“Now is the time to prepare, not wait,” said Fire Chief Will Booth.
“Even small creeks can change quickly during these conditions.”
The city is also reminding residents about creek and riverbank safety.
Local creeks and rivers are already running high, and conditions may change quickly, increasing the risk of localized flooding and hazardous conditions near waterways.
Residents are strongly urged to:
- Stay well back from creeks and rivers.
- Keep children and pets away from fast-moving water.
- Be aware that banks may be unstable and debris may be present.
- Take proactive steps if living in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
- If you have a culvert on your property, please check that it is clear of debris. Check the catch basins on your street to ensure they are clear as well.
- Report issues to the City here.
The City will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as needed.
