Projects across the East Kootenays promoting crime prevention, Indigenous healing, restorative justice and solutions to gender-based violence will receive more than $350,000 in grants, including Cranbrook.
“Community organizations play a vital role in keeping our neighbourhoods safe and inclusive for everyone,” said Nina Krieger, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
In total, more than $8 million in grants will be disbursed across BC.
“Gender-based violence has a profound impact on individuals, families and communities, and this funding helps turn harm into hope,” said Jennifer Blatherwick, parliamentary secretary for gender equity.
In a BC government release, it announced that in 2026, 173 grants will be provided to organizations to support projects under the following streams:
- gender-based violence: 70 grants totalling $2.7 million
- child and youth advocacy centres: 12 grants totalling nearly $2 million
- crime prevention: 31 grants totalling more than $1 million
- Indigenous healing: 27 grants totalling $1 million
- restorative justice: 20 grants totalling $814,000
- domestic-violence prevention/intervention programming: 13 grants totalling $510,000
“Communities across B.C. are benefiting from holistic, community-based approaches to healing and rebuilding families who have been impacted by intergenerational trauma, crime or victimization, “said Spencer Chandra Herbert, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.
Since the Civil Forfeiture Office’s inception, more than $100 million has been given as grants supporting community organizations throughout B.C.
A total of seven projects in the East Kootenays have been allocated funding, including two in Cranbrook.

Organization: The Cranbrook and District Restorative Justice Society
Project Name: Restorative Justice RCMP Facilitations PROGRAM
About the Project: The project delivers restorative justice circles and mediation agreements for young and first-time offenders who take accountability, providing supported pathways to repair harm, strengthen community safety, and reduce reoffending before charges are laid.
Grant: $40,000
Organization: The Summit Community Services Society
Project Name: Pilot Project: Men’s Anti-Violence Services
About the project: The project will provide individual and group therapeutic/counselling supports for men who have experienced abuse and/or men who have used abusive behaviours and want to make changes in their lives, and will also provide anti-violence community education and service coordination geared towards men.
Grant: $39,999
Organization: Kootenay Boundary Community Services Cooperative
Project Name: Safe Kids and Youth Advocacy Centre
About the project: The project provides funding to support service delivery for the Safe Kids and Youth (SKY) Coordinated Response.
Grant: $140,000
Organization: Elk Valley Family Society
Project Name: Chrysalis House Support Program
About the project: The project supports at-risk women and children through weekly inhouse workshops on topics included life-skills and employment readiness, and enhanced staff support over one year to prevent gender-based violence.

Organization: Kaslo Community Services
Project Name: Sexual Assault Services Counselling
About the project: This project will provide counselling services for adult survivors of sexualized violence due to their gender identity and/or sexual orientation including approaches such as trauma informed care, art therapy, EMDR therapy as well as access to Indigenous supports and knowledge keepers for healing.

Organization: Trail Family and Individual Resource Centre Society
Project Name: Coping and Connection after Trauma
About the project: This project will deliver a 3-part closed group series providing psychoeducation and support to self-identifying women who have experienced and are impacted by trauma following interpersonal or systemic gender-based violence by focusing on building sustainable coping strategies, engaging with emotional regulation tools, and developing community connections through safe and secure relationship-building.

Organization: Valley Community Services Society
Project Name: Supporting Women from Plural Culture
About the project: This project provides transitional and life skills support to women from Bountiful, including bridging from this culture to mainstream culture, mentoring, outreach and parenting support, support to children and youth and counselling.
Grant: $40,000
In addition to funding community-led initiatives, the Civil Forfeiture Grant program also funds specialized police equipment and training for law enforcement agencies in B.C.
In 2026, more than $1 million has been awarded to 111 police agencies supporting law-enforcement projects with a focus on community safety, prevention and crime-reduction initiatives.
