Elk Valley Resources (EVR) came away from the 68th annual B.C. Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition on top.
The competition was held May 22 – 23 in Penticton, BC, bringing together 16 teams from around the province, with Line Creek Operations placing first overall in both the Surface Mine Rescue and Three-person First Aid categories.
It included teams from Line Creek, Greenhills and Elkview who competed in challenges involving essential emergency response skills, firefighting, extrication, practical skills, first aid and rope rescue in simulated conditions.
“We are incredibly proud of our mine rescue and first aid team members across our operations and their impressive performance at the B.C. Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition,” said Mike Carrucan, CEO, EVR.
“Our results once again reflect their commitment to excellence in emergency response and ensures that our people and communities can rely on our teams to support them in the event things unfortunately go wrong.”
It was the second year in a row that EVR took the accolades.
In 2025, a Line Creek Operations team placed first in the Surface Mine Rescue category, and a Fording River Operations team won the Three-person First Aid competition.

Best coach – Jen Virtue, Line Creek Operations
Best captain – Brittney Dorian, Line Creek Operations
Best three-person team – Line Creek Operations (first place), Greenhills Operations (second place)
Surface Mine Rescue

Best fire task – Line Creek Operations
Best coach – Alex Isaacs, Line Creek Operations
Best captain – Harley Marshall, Line Creek Operations
