Upgrades at three airports in the East Kootenay region are taking flight with new support from the B.C. government.
The province has allocated $729,660 for space capacity at the Canadian Rockies International Airport, $17,250 for pavement improvements at Elk Valley Airport, and $114,472 for a skid-steer loader and attachments at Fairmont Hot Springs Airport.
“The B.C. Air Access Program strengthens local economies and supports good jobs, while improving safety for people living in and travelling through rural and regional communities,” said Mike Farnworth, minister of transportation and transit.
“This program recognizes that smaller airports help connect communities and are essential for the people throughout B.C.”
The program is open to facilities with fewer than one million passengers per year, with yearly intake available from November to January.
More than $8 million has been distributed to 18 airports across B.C. for this year’s cohort.
