To better serve commuters travelling between Kimberley and Cranbrook, BC Transit is updating schedules to match service demand.
At Monday’s council meeting, the changes to BC Transit routes were announced, including an increase in fares starting June 29.
These changes include more weekday commuter trips to and from Cranbrook, fewer daytime Health Connections trips (with updated timing) and on-request service starting at 8:30 a.m.
Fare Changes
- In February, the council approved an increase to single-ride fares by $0.50 and added a monthly pass option priced at $80 per month (or 23 x the increased single-ride fare)
- A further increase in 2028 to single-ride fares was approved at $0.50 (a $1.00 increase from the current rate) and a monthly pass priced at $92/month (or 23 x the increased single-ride fare)
Schedule Changes
- The morning KC Commuter (Route 22) service will increase to three trips each weekday. (The new trip runs earlier, arriving at the Cranbrook Downtown Exchange at 7:10, 7:45, and 8:15 a.m.)
- The evening KC Commuter (Route 22) service will also increase to three trips each weekday. (The new trip runs later, departing from the Cranbrook Downtown Exchange at 4:45, 5:10, and 5:40 p.m.)
- The Health Connections (Route 21) service will reduce to two trips each weekday, and trip timing is revised from the current schedule.
- The revised Health Connections (Route 21) schedule will accommodate routing to St. Eugene Mission, if pre-booked and schedule permits, allowing service for ?aq’am community members up to four times a day on weekdays (and a pre-test of potential future inter-community service expansion options.)
- The start time of the local on-request (Route 24) service is now later at 8:30 a.m.
The changes increase the number of trips between Kimberley and Cranbrook from seven to eight weekdays, providing more capacity and options for riders commuting to or from Cranbrook.
There are no extra costs with the new schedule, as provincial funding was not approved; existing resources are being reallocated to address demand.
The schedule changes do not involve and will not affect the Peak to Platzl Winter Shuttle (Route 23) service.
Visit BC Transit for new schedules as they become available.
