Police are now investigating a fatal accident that took the life of one motorcyclist in Montrose, roughly two and a half hours west of Cranbrook, early Monday morning (May 25).
At around 4:25 a.m., RCMP were paged out to the incident on Highway 3B, near 10th Street, where witnesses say the motorcycle crashed into an elk.
The lone rider, a 27-year-old Fruitvale man, received serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This is a tragic loss that will be felt deeply in a close-knit community like ours,” said Trail Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Dave Johnson.
“Incidents involving wildlife can happen suddenly and with little warning, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the man’s family, friends, and all those affected by this incident.”
Trail RCMP have found no criminality regarding the incident.
The BC Coroners Service is set to take over the investigation.
