The RCMP detachment in Sparwood has released its first quarter figures for 2026, and total calls for service were down compared to January through March last year.
In its report to city council Monday night, it said of the total calls, RCMP in Sparwood responded to 36 motor vehicle incidents. This was down from the first quarter of 2025 when it was 45.
There was an increase in numbers of break and enters in commercial properties versus January, February and March 2025.
Mounties responded to 6 mental health incidents, which was also up from 2 in 2025 ‘s first quarter.
Key Notes: Extreme weather created unfavorable driving conditions mid-February, which lead to the closure of the highway between Sparwood and the BC/AB Border. Officers responded to calls for motor vehicle incidents during this weather event.
