Close to $9000 in grant funding is being handed out to community groups by the City of Fernie.
Each year, under its Discretionary Grant program, non-profits and other agencies can apply for financial help.
In 2026, that’s happening twice.
Among those to receive funding in the latest round are:
The Elk Valley Family Society for $2,000 to continue its work on establishing housing access as it relates to workforce needs.
Outdoor Connections, also for $2,000, to buy a new portable shelter/warming hut.
And, $3000 to the Fernie Ghostriders to go towards the cost of asbestos removal in its team showers.
The second intake for discretionary grants comes up in the Fall.
