Cranbrook’s fire rescue kept busy in the first three months of 2026, responding to 589 calls for service.
In a report to city council Monday night, Fire Chief Scott Driver indicated most of the major calls the department would see, drop during the winter months.
However, Driver added there was a rise in the number of overdose responses, citing the ongoing toxic drug risk in the community.
As for where most of the calls came from, the chief said that continues to be the downtown core.
Driver also noted a shift in the type of service calls, with 73 per cent in January, February, and March designated as ‘pre-hospital care’ and just 27 per cent as actual fire and rescue incidents.
Of the 428 ‘pre-hospital care’ calls Cranbrook Fire & Rescue responded to, 119 were overdose or poison related with the remainder considered medical episodes.
