Over 1,000 participants from Kimberley and Cranbrook have worked together for one mission this past Earth Week – to revitalize their communities.
“With Earth Week just wrapping up, it feels good to look back at the photo submissions and crunch the numbers from the Co-Community Cleanup,” said Andrea Chapman, branch manager at Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook.
“It continues to amaze us as to how the trash seems to build up each year.”
A total of 21 groups signed up for the challenge despite the workweek.
Wildsight says local schools and organizations, from the Sunrise Rotary Club and Laurie Middle School in Cranbrook to the Alpine Resort and McKim Middle School in Kimberley, made up the bulk of the attendance record.
“We hope that as more people see the pride and effort of our participants, that domino effect will inspire more people to care for the environment around us, be it a roadside, park, or trail,” Chapman added.

Seventy-seven participants then came out for a three-hour friendly trash competition that weekend, on April 25, at Centennial Park in Kimberley.
Prizes were awarded for categories such as “Most Unique Trash” and “Most Colourful Team”.
The annual event is set to return to both communities for Earth Week next year.
