Applications are available now for the City of Cranbrook’s 2026 rebate program for either programmable above-ground sprinkler timers or rain barrels, in support of water conservation in Cranbrook.
City officials say residents can apply for one rebate, up to a maximum of $50 per household for either a programmable timer or a rain barrel, on a
first come, first serve basis until the rebate funding is exhausted.
Applications are only valid for rain barrels or sprinkler times purchased on or after Jan. 1, 2026.
The city says programmable sprinkler timers are a great way to simplify watering your lawn and garden. Officials say programmable above-ground sprinkler timers can be set up to water your lawn or garden based on the city’s current water restriction stage. The timers are connected to your outdoor tap and controls the start and stop of water flow to your hose.
City officials further point out that rain barrels are also an excellent way to conserve Cranbrook’s drinking water supply. The city says rain barrels collect
rainwater from buildings and rooftops to be used at later times. Officials note, this water can be used for outdoor irrigation, reducing the need to use treated water from the tap.
Residents can mail or drop off completed application, along with proof of purchase and a photo of their rain barrel or timer installed in place, to City Hall at 40 -10th Avenue South during regular business hours, or they can email the information to the city at ap@cranbrook.ca.
City officials say this offer is only for owners of existing residential buildings with a valid occupancy permit, property taxes in good standing, located within the municipal boundaries of the City of Cranbrook and connected to the
municipal water systems.
Those who have received a rain barrel rebate in the past are eligible for a
programmable sprinkler timer rebate. Those who received a rain barrel rebate in the past are not eligible for another rain barrel rebate.
