A community-driven event is returning to Cranbrook this weekend with a focus on local bike ownership and accessibility.
JCI Kootenay has announced a partnership with the Wildhorse Cycling Club to host the 2026 Bike Swap, a community-focused event aimed at getting more bikes into the hands of local riders.
Taking place May 2 at Northstar Bicycle Co., organizers say the Bike Swap will offer an opportunity for community members to buy and sell used bicycles.
Drop-off will run from 6-8 p.m. on Friday and 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, with sales opening at 12 p.m. the same day.
Organizers say this year marks a shift in the evolution of the event, with a focus on transitioning long-term ownership to the cycling community. By partnering with the Wildhorse Cycling Club, officials say the goal is to ensure the Bike Swap continues to grow under the leadership of those most connected to the local riding community.
“This event has always been about access, connection, and community,” said a representative from JCI Kootenay. “Working alongside Wildhorse allows us to keep that focus strong while supporting a sustainable future for the event.”
Officials note, the Bike Swap has become a staple in the Cranbrook community, helping reduce barriers to cycling by providing affordable equipment while promoting active transportation and recreation.
