Four snowmobilers were fined after becoming stuck in a closed section of Holt Creek west of Golden on Feb. 4.
“Golden, B.C., and its surrounding areas attract snowmobilers from all over the world,” said Golden-Field RCMP Media Relations Officer Const. Donna Freeman.
“For snowmobilers who traverse the backcountry, especially within an alpine environment, it is essential to plan ahead and be well-prepared for quickly changing environmental conditions,” Freeman said.
“Precautions need to be made to carry emergency supplies, pack extra clothing, a cell phone power bank, know your limits, and to be very careful not to go out of bounds in avalanche prone areas.”
The snowmobilers were issued a $575 fine for operating a motor vehicle in a closed area.
RCMP say they will also be responsible for the cost of a helicopter used to recover their snowmobiles.
RCMP are reminding outdoor recreationists to exercise caution and be prepared for risks when venturing into the backcountry.
