Site preparation is underway for a new childcare centre planned next to Western Financial Place in Cranbrook.
The city says fencing is being installed around the site today (Jan. 27) as crews prepare the area for construction.
Roads and parks staff, along with Public Works carpenters, are carrying out the work.
In the coming weeks, crews are set to remove the playground, benches, gazebo and the concrete pad that previously housed a seniors’ exercise circuit.

The city said nearby residents and visitors to Western Financial Place can expect noise during daytime and evening hours as jackhammers are used to remove the concrete.
Memorial trees located on the site are set to be relocated beginning in April.
The city said it will contact the families who donated the trees to discuss new locations.
Construction of the childcare centre is scheduled to begin in late spring 2026.
