Update: Effective 9:00 p.m. Mountain Time, the evacuation order has been lifted for the Fenwick Road area along the Kootenay River, according to the Regional District.
“Residents and travellers on Fenwick Road are asked to exercise caution in the coming days, as CPKC will have equipment and vehicles utilizing the road during their clean-up efforts,” said Christina Carbrey, Director of the Regional Emergency Operations Centre.

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) has issued an Evacuation Order following a train derailment that occurred early this morning.
The order affects properties along the Kootenay River and Fenwick Road, just northwest of Bull River.
The Evacuation Order applies to the following five properties:

3607 Fenwick Rd

3664 Fenwick Rd

3611 Fenwick Rd
A tactical evacuation of these homes was carried out this morning.
“The tactical evacuation was performed by RCMP and CP Police in response to the evolving situation,” said Christina Carbrey, Director of the Regional Emergency Operations Centre.
Emergency Support Services (ESS) are available for residents displaced from their homes.
