Yesterday morning (Nov. 20), Elk Valley RCMP were called to a report of a mining incident at Elkview Operations in Sparwood, BC.
A 39-year-old man from Hosmer working on site had been reported missing.
EVR Mine Rescue teams initiated a search of the area, with RCMP assisting in the initial investigation and remaining in contact with EVR teams.
As of this morning (Nov. 21), RCMP have confirmed that the missing man is deceased and his remains have been recovered.
The BC Coroners Service is reportedly on scene, and the Ministry of Mining has been notified and will investigate in coordination with the RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.
RCMP and EVR say that next-of-kin have been notified and extend sincere condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of the deceased.
This investigation is ongoing.
