Cranbrook RCMP are crediting a concerned citizen for helping officers arrest an impaired driver who was also breaching multiple court-ordered conditions.
Mounties were called to the Home Depot parking lot after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle with no licence plate, fogged-up windows, and its engine revving.
When officers arrived, they found a man passed out inside the vehicle.
Mounties say they woke the driver, who showed clear signs of impairment and subsequently failed a roadside test.
Further investigation revealed the man was under court-ordered conditions prohibiting him from being in the driver’s seat or a vehicle unless accompanied by the registered owner.
During the arrest, officers also seized a number of tools and an e-bike.
“This is a great example of how community vigilance plays a key role in public safety,” said S/Sgt Barry GRAHAM, “When residents take the time to call in suspicious activity, it allows us to respond quickly and remove potentially dangerous situations from our community.”
RCMP remind residents to report any suspicious activity by calling 250-489-3471 — or 911 in an emergency.
