Like its counterparts, the City of Kimberley is looking at its zoning bylaws closely ahead of an imposed June 30 deadline by the province.
At the centre of discussion is an easing of development restrictions, paving the way to allow for more housing communities across BC.
Mayor Don McCormick was asked if he sees the legislation put in place by Victoria last fall as changing the look of his community.
In a word, no…
At last night’s council meeting, a decision to give all three readings of the city’s newly structured policies failed.
Council decided, instead, to give the revamped bylaws first reading and look closely at any potential impact to the city.
It’s expected to be brought back to the table at the May 27th meeting.
Council also passed the City’s 2024 tax rate bylaw at last night’s regular meeting.
In it is a 5.33 percent increase, but it will be the same for residents, utilities, light industry, business, and recreation.
Again, here is Mayor Don McCormick…
None of the increase, the mayor pointed out, is going to new projects or infrastructure.
Those costs will be either covered through reserves or grant money.
