Trying to find a family doctor has been a long-standing challenge here in the East Kootenay, but it has been getting gradually better since the pandemic.

The family practice division has been able to recruit 41 physicians, specialists, and locums in the last four years, but as was pointed out during out a presentation at a Cranbrook Rotary luncheon Thursday, some of the recruitments weren’t necessarily additions, but to replace retiring physicians.

Four years ago, the Division also launched the East Kootenay Primary Care Network which covers family physicians, nurse practioners, registered nurses, clinic staff, Allied Health professionals, midwives, and aboriginal care navigators to improve primary care to patients.
