East Kootenay MLA Tom Shypitka is hoping that a private members bill re-introduced in the legislature Thursday will gain some traction this time and finally make it to the floor for debate before the summer break and upcoming provincial election.
Standing in the provincial legislature Thursday, Tom Shypitka said the framework of the bill has gained support from numerous wildlife and habitat coalitions, conservationists, and hunting groups across British Columbia.
By phone afterwards, he outlined some of its benefits…
In a release yesterday, Shypitka said the proposed model would be eligible to receive funding and revenue from all levels of government, including First Nations.
Titled ‘The Wildlife Amendment Act No. 2’ the bill proposes that 100 percent of contributions earned from purchasing licenses, fees from hunting, and other forms of stakeholder land use who go back into wildlife and habitat management.
With two recent positive tests of Chronic Wasting Disease near Cranbrook from January, he feels it’s important that is passes legislation this time around…
Shypitka first introduced the bill in the legislature in June of 2022.
