RCMP in the Elk Valley have a warning for residents in Fernie.
The detachment is receiving reports of aggressive door-to-door salespeople in the community in the last few days.
Authorities recommend, especially if you’re alone, to never open your door to strangers, even if they try to show you their credentials.
They also suggest never to give money or personal information to someone you don’t know.
Traditionally, RCMP will get a phone call ahead of time from a reputable charity or company saying they’ll be in the community, however, the latest set of incidents, that hasn’t happened.
If they say they’re representing a charity or other non-profit organization, the recommendation is to check it out.
One way is do that is through the Better Business Bureau.
As always, if you do feel threatened or intimidated, you can always reach out to your local police.
