The Edgewater Fire Department responded to a small fire at their local transfer station Friday night.
Columbia Valley Rural Fire and Rescue Chief Drew Sinclair says a chair and pile of books were set on fire on the apron near the Transfer station bin.
The fire was quickly extinguished and while there was some damage to the signage on site, the fire did not impact the transfer station bins or the transfer station itself.
He adds there was a noticeable smell of accelerant in the area and fire crews believe the fire was deliberately set.
RCMP have been notified of the incident. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at the Edgewater Transfer Statioin between 6:30 pm and 6:50 pm Friday night is asked to report it to the Columbia Valley RCMP.
