Downtown Invermere’s newest landmark has officially clocked in.
A new street clock has been installed on 7th Avenue across from Lambert Kipp Pharmacy.
The new timepiece is the idea of Jim Guild, Robin Britton and Doug Kipp, who presented the idea to District Council in memory of former Invermere resident Kris Scamen.
Guild says he Britton, and Kipp purchased the clock with the help of the Invermere Rotary Club and gifted it to the District of Invermere.
“At the same time we were doing that, Rotary had thought about a clock,” says Guild. “And then when were were out on a ride one of the Rotarians stopped us and asked if that was true that we were doing a clock and we said Yep. They asked if they could share in it and we said For sure. That’s basically how the contributors came about.”
Guild says says the time piece will be a good landmark for the area and is useful to have in colder weather.
“I walked by there every day with the dog, it’s kind of fun to see or if your driving home and go past it, it’s really nice to have that,” Guild says. “And a lot of comments people had made was that they needed the clock as kind of a focal point. I think it kind of anchors the downtown a little bit, from my perspective.”
The street clock is functional and meant to serve as a new landmark for the community.
