Retired Radium resident Brad Lawrence hopes to be elected Mayor of Radium Hot Springs.
Lawrence moved to Radium two years ago after retiring from a 40 year career in Alberta, where he was part of various community groups and associations.
He put his name into the Radium mayoral race after feeling the urge to be involved in a community again.
“I’ve missed that part of me since retirement and moving to Radium,” Lawrence says. “I really felt the urge now after COVID was over and meeting all the fantastic people I’ve met in this valley here. The urge is back, I just need to do something in my retirement. Running for mayor seemed to be the perfect fit for what I need.”
Lawrence hopes to address affordable housing needs in Radium to encourage people to live and work in the Columbia Valley.
“We have affordable housing needs for people that come here,” Lawrence says. “We want to encourage people to come here to be able to live and work in this community and its really difficult right now, finding the housing that’s required in order for the employment needs to be met within the valley. That’s one of the top things I know around here.”
He says the community has come a long way with several amenities built over the years, including a new fire hall, community centre and the recently built roundabout.
The Municipal Election is set for October 15.
