Several Sparwood residents attended or viewed a meeting earlier this week to learn more about efforts to battle the nearby Cummings Creek wildfire.
BC Wildfire Service technician Scott Rennick provided an overview of fire behaviour and challenges facing firefighters who are battling the more than 50 hectares blaze.
He says safety is paramount for his crews.
“We’re at the end of a draw, one way in and one way out,” says Rennick. “We have to be very careful in terms of how we fight it [the fire].”
An Area Restricion Order is active within the vicinity of the wildfire west of Sparwood.
