Elkford Search and Rescue is moving into it’s new home.
The local SAR group is moving into their new building this week and they are holding an open house Saturday to show off their new digs.
Elkford SAR’s Ian Finlayson says the new building was renovated with funding from Teck Coal, NWP Coal and local non-profits.
“The new location gives us the opportunity to have dedicated rooms for our radio teams, for our management, full new office set ups in there, which is something we’ve never had, that was donated by Teck Coal,” Finlayson says. “And then in general we just have a nice isolated area for our gear room to keep it safe and secure while we’re out on calls.”
Finlayson says the open house gives you the chance to learn more about what the team does and how they operate.
“The local lions club will be providing food, we’ve got burgers, sausages, and some gluten free and vegetarian options as well. It’s a chance to meet some of the team members, get to see how the building’s laid out and kind of get an idea of what happens on call and answer any questions about the team and what we do.”
You can see the new location at an open house happening from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Saturday at 222 Alpine Way.
