The stage is set for Cranbrook Community Theatre’s next production.
This April and May you can enjoy Tuesdays with Morrie, directed by Stephanie Kress and staring Landon Elliott and Michael Grossman.
Kress says she is excited to put on the show for a full audience as COVID-19 mandates are coming to an end.
“We no longer have to wear masks in the theater, we’re back to full capacity,” Kress says. “Of course, we respect if people are still more comfortable wearing masks, please do. But, it seems when the show is up we’re back to normal! If I shall dare use that word.”
The play, based on a true story, follows real life author and playwright Mitch Albom as he visits his former professor Morrie for fourteen Tuesdays and ultimately has his life transformed.
Kress says the play involves the disease ALS, and she reached out to ALS online groups to give the production an accurate and sensitive portrayal of the condition.
“A gentleman reached out to me said I have advanced stages of ALS, I live in Texas,” She says. “We’ve been able to meet via Zoom and video chat. He’s helping us through to make sure that we’re accurately portraying what this disease does to somebody’s body.”
The show will be performing April 29 – May 14, with a matinee May 1.

Cranbrook Community Theatre is proud to bring you its final show of our 2021/22 season, Mitch Albom’s Tuesdays with Morrie, written by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom.
Tuesdays With Morrie was the breakout New York Times bestselling book that captured the hearts of millions.
The play, based on the book, follows the story of Mitch Albom and his visits with his former professor Morrie.
For fourteen Tuesdays he gathers wisdom & insight as he is taught life’s greatest lessons, ultimately transforming his life forever.
“The story is about death, which may typically leave the audience saddened. However, as we finish experiencing the story, we are left filled with love, light and hope.” said director Stephanie Kress. “As Morrie says in the play, ‘The truth is . . . once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.’ I am drawn to this, because simply, it is true.”
The show stars Landon Elliott as Mitch and Michael Grossman as Morrie.

Masks are no longer required to attend CCT events, but we encourage theatre goers to continue wearing masks if it makes them feel more comfortable in our small space.
CCT respects that everyone is going at their own pace and we’re excited to have audiences back in the Studio/Stage Door.
CCT’s 2021/2022 season is made possible through a BC Community Gaming Funds grant and the support from the City of Cranbrook.
