New funding for the College of the Rockies will help get new professional truck drivers on the road in the Columbia Valley.
The BC Government is providing almost $650,000 to the College of the Rockies in Golden to deliver skills and certification courses in two intakes of its professional Class 1 truck driver program.
Graduates of the program will achieve mandatory entry-level training (MELT), which is a program for new commercial truck drivers that improve the safety on our highways.
They’ll also receive a variety of certification courses essential for transporting certain goods, along with WHMIS training and First Aid.
This is the second intake of the new Community and Employer Partnerships project from the BC Government, with participant recruitment focused on Indigenous individuals.
Up to nine eligible BC residents will be able to take part.
