A special event is planned for the end of Fire Prevention Week in Sparwood.
The Sparwood Fire Department is holding an outdoor open house for residents to learn more and see the fire and rescue team in action.
The event will include fire extinguisher practice, as well as information handouts and goody bags for the kids.
Chief Dean Spry says there will also be several demonstrations of what kind of work firefighters do day-to-day.
“We’ll also have some auto extrication techniques that we’re going to demonstrate,” Spry says. “We’ll have a little bit of a building that will show you how quick fire spreads within a building.”
Spry says the department is getting back to normal this year after forgoing their regular open house format last year due to COVID-19.
“Have small groups come through and just see some fire safety aspects, some education,” he says. “But also the equipment and the department in general. Just their capabilities and the group of people that dedicate their lives to the fire service here.”
The open house is happening at Fire Station #1 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm Tuesday, you’re asked to wear masks and follow COVID-19 protocols.
