The City of Fernie is seeking feedback on plans for the community’s new skatepark.
A public workshop next week will give you a chance to convey feedback on the project.
Fernie mayor Ange Qualizza says the new skatepark will be a draw for local skaters, and for visitors.
“We’re a resort community, we really wanted to build something that was really significant,” Qualizza says. “Once you start talking to families that have skatepark children, they’re driving into other communities to go to these big skateparks. We wanted to be a part of that.”
The public workshop is being hosted by New Line Skateparks who are designing the facility, it’s happening June 16 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Fernie Community Centre.

Do you have ideas about what you want to see in Fernie’s new skatepark?
Help shape the redevelopment of our skatepark by participating in a workshop on Thursday, June 16 from 7-9pm at the Fernie Community Centre, 902 Hwy 3.
The public workshop will be hosted by New Line Skateparks who will lead the design and construction of the grant-funded skatepark redevelopment project. This is your chance to learn about the process and contribute to the overall design of the new all-wheel park which will be an exciting outdoor community hub.
Doors will open at 6:30pm for the event, with a presentation beginning at 7pm, followed by an interactive opportunity to give input.
If you are unable to attend the in-person session you will be able to provide your feedback via a survey on the City’s online engagement platform after the workshop.
