The Kimberley Helping Hands Food Bank is moving.
The Food Bank society has purchased the old Equicare Garage across from the City Works yard, roughly one kilometer away from their current location at Kimberley United Church.
Manager Thom Tarte says the food bank will be able to conduct new opportunities and projects in a more stable, long-term home.
“We’re not really sure what we’re going to do yet,” Tarte says. “Right now it’s all about getting into this new building. There’s a lot of work and focus going in to just doing that and trying to get in by September. We’re trying to not look too far ahead, we’re just trying to complete that project, that’s a big one.”
Tarte says the food bank was housed by the church for over 30 years, but is now looking for a more stable base of operations.
“I think we’re very grateful for where we’ve been for a very long time,” he says. “There’s been a lot of cooperation between us and the church to make that work, and that’s been great. But I think we’re ready to explore new opportunities and maybe grow programs to help the community.”
The food bank’s moving date is tentatively scheduled for September.
The food bank plans to move sometime around September, following renovations at their new location.
