The MP for Kootenay-Columbia is supporting a colleague’s bid to become the new leader of the federal Conservative party.
Rob Morrison is backing Carlton MP Pierre Poilievre, who hopes to lead the opposition Tories into the next federal election following the removal of Erin O’Toole as party leader last week.
Morrison says Poilievre can unite the party, and he understands and wants to address issues which are important to Kootenay-Columbia constituents.
“He is very familiar with western Canada and the issues we have, our energy sector, very supportive,” says Morrison. “He’s fully bilingual and he can communicate all across Canada. Very experienced, very well spoken.”
Poilievre has represented the Conservatives as an MP since 2004, he is currently the Shadow Minister for Finance.
Until the Conservatives choose a new leader, the party will be led by Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen on an interim basis.

Pierre Poilievre was born and raised not far from Kootenay-Columbia, in Southern Alberta, and understands Western Canada. As the Member of Parliament for Carleton he has also proven he can win in Ontario, which will be critical in the effort to defeat Justin Trudeau.
Pierre is a passionate, hard-working leader who is uniquely positioned to bridge divisions and unify our country. He is a man of principle, with strong conservative values, who has the capacity to inspire, and that is why I am supporting him to be the next leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.
