Teck Resources has announced they are taking another step toward decarbonizing its vehicle fleet in the Elk Valley.
The mining company is planning to deploy 30 Caterpillar zero-emission trucks at its Elk Valley steelmaking coal operations.
Teck is working toward reducing the carbon intensity of its operations by 33 percent by 2030.
The company said in a statement their goal is to be a carbon neutral operator by 2050.
Teck adds the Elk Valley coal operations are an ideal location to introduce one of Canada’s first zero-emissions large haul truck fleets, as the operations are already powered by a 95 percent clean electricity grid.
