Reconstruction of Coal Creek Road near Fernie will get underway Monday morning.
Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting says the structure of the Coal Creek Road was compromised in several sections during major rain storms in the Elk Valley late last year.
The massive rainfall in November undermined embankment slopes, structures at the Fernie Rifle Range, washed away several sections of Coal Creek Road from Ridgemont Road to the Coal Creek Snowmobile staging area, and cut off access to the bridge further up the valley.
The work is expected to take five weeks and will run from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
Expect traffic delays, traffic control personnel on site and stockpiles of road base repair material.
Mainroad warns there will be a noticeable increase in dump trucks present in residential areas as the work takes place.
Residents are also encouraged not to enter construction areas, with single lane alternating traffic in place on sections of Coal Creek Road.
