The recent snow storm in the East Kootenay and Elk Valley has increased the risk of avalanches in the backcountry.
Avalanche Canada says there’s a considerable risk of avalanches in the alpine area of all local ranges and at the treeline for the South Rockies and Lizard range.
They say the recent storm left lots of snow available for wind transport, forming storm slabs that could react to snowmobilers.
Forecasters say anyone heading into the backcountry should take careful steps and back off if you find signs of instability.
