The City of Fernie has received a $40,000 RBC Barrier Buster Grant to improve accessibility at the Fernie Memorial Arena.
The funding will pay for replacement asphalt at the entrance to provide smoother, safer access, automatic doors with accessible push-button controls, and a comfort sled to expand accessible recreation opportunities.
The City will also receive a Permobil wheelchair for visitors, participants and community members to use at city facilities.
The arena’s main entrance is temporarily closed while the work is underway. Visitors are asked to use the doors beside the concession.
