Cranbrook Public Library is expanding its accessible collection through a service offering more than 1.5 million titles for people with print disabilities or other barriers to reading.
The Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) provides books, magazines and newspapers in audio, e-text and braille for people living in Canada.
The service supports readers whose learning, physical or visual disabilities prevent them from reading conventional print, as well as those with other conditions that make reading a physical book difficult.
Barriers can include vision loss, learning disabilities or difficulty holding a book or turning its pages.
Users can download materials to computers, tablets, cellphones, e-readers and other devices.
The library also lends Envoy Connect and DAISY readers. A wide selection of titles for children is available.
The service offers accessible reading options for people who experience barriers to reading due to a print disability.
The collection includes audiobooks, magazines and braille books delivered to users’ homes. A Cranbrook Public Library card is required to register for a CELA account.
