The Cranbrook Bucks rallied in the third period to force overtime but fell 4-3 to the Trail Smoke Eaters on Friday night (Oct. 9).
Trail’s Erik Larson scored the only goal of the first period on the power play at Western Financial Place.
Two minutes into the second period, Bucks defenceman Mykola Kosarev tied the game, with Mitch Patrick and Teo Pisani drawing assists.
Three minutes later, Bucks captain Jack McMinn threaded a pass to Patrick, who scored on the man advantage to give Cranbrook the lead.
Trail’s Aleksandr Andriyashev tied the game in the opening minute of the third period. Seven minutes later, Brayden Rotach put the Smoke Eaters ahead.
At 10:44, Bucks forward Teo Pisani scored off a pass from Jeremy Poirier to tie the game and force overtime.
Trail’s Daniel Rassega scored the winner 1:34 into overtime.
The Bucks next turn their attention to the BCHL Showcase at the Silent Ice Center in Nisku, Alta.
Bucks face the Coquitlam Express on Sunday (Oct. 11) and Bucks Head Coach Roshen Jaswal told Pattison Media earlier this week that they do not face the Lower Mainland team often and it will be a “good test”.
“I think a big thing for us is they’re pretty high-octane up front, so just neutralizing their forwards, and then being able to get pucks behind their D and get in to establish our forecheck, and play with the puck in there, and I think it will be huge,” adds Jaswal.
Puck drop is 4 p.m. on Oct. 11 againist the Express.
