The City of Fernie plans to repair 11 high-priority manholes this fall to reduce stormwater entering its wastewater system during heavy rain.
Temporary lane closures are expected in the coming weeks as crews work in the Annex, Mountview, West Fernie, Riverside and Ghostrider neighbourhoods.
City investigations and modelling identified the sites as the wastewater system’s 11 worst sources of leakage.
The pilot program is one of six initiatives planned or underway to reduce stormwater impacts, one of two major challenges the city says it is facing in its wastewater system.
