The City supported the 2026 Respect the Brain-Bucket Fernie Helmet Challenge, an annual campaign promoting helmet use.
Throughout the summer, riders spotted wearing helmets received tickets they could submit at local stores for entry into a prize draw.
The campaign ended in September, and firefighters presented the winner with a gift basket earlier this week.
Healthcare providers at Elk Valley Hospital launched the initiative with local emergency services, the RCMP and municipal partners in Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford. The campaign uses positive reinforcement to encourage helmet use.
